Invisalign makes you smile

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment method that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. This is in place of metal archwires, brackets and elastics which are used for traditional metal braces. Invisalign aligners are made from a clear medical grade plastic which is extremely discreet. In fact, the material is so discreet it’s almost invisible, which means people around you won’t even know you’re having treatment – unless you tell them of course.

What is Invisalign

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign’s clear plastic aligners are custom-made to the shape of your teeth using information we have received from the digital scans and impressions we take of your teeth at the start of treatment. This ensures your aligners are a comfortable fit and extremely effective.

Every two weeks you will be required to change your aligners. You can do this yourself because the aligners are removable – one of the many benefits of Invisalign treatment. Each set of aligners are moulded ever so slightly differently to guide your teeth into the desired position at the completion of treatment.

How long will it take to straighten your teeth?

This depends on how much correction your teeth need. You will see results within the first few weeks of treatment but total time can range from 3 to 20 months.

How does Invisalign compare to regular braces?

Invisalign is a discreet and effective treatment that is becoming more and more popular with patients. It can correct several issues like overcrowding, under-bites, over-bites and gaps in teeth.

As the aligners are removable it is also an ideal treatment for those whose work involves events, photographs and meetings. Just take out your custom-built aligners and get ready for that big moment. Invisalign will need to be kept in for 20-22 hours per day which means you can take them out for cleaning, eating and drinking (except water). You can easily clean the tray with your toothbrush and clean and floss your teeth as normal.

Unlike other braces Invisalign’s comfortable, smooth surface means you don’t have to worry about painful tightening and adjustments.

During your consultation at The Specialist Orthodontic Practice, our experts can advise if you could benefit from Invisalign.

Will my treatment be painful?

Whilst Invisalign is a gentler solution to correcting issues, you may first feel some pressure on your teeth. This is normal as the aligners work on moving your teeth into the right positions. As you become more used to this, the feeling of discomfort will subside.
