Invisalign will make your child smile

Othodontic treatment for children

Correcting misaligned teeth as a child can be an uncomfortable experience. Aside from the fitting, he or she may dread wearing the noticeable braces to school. As a patient of The Specialist Orthodontic Practice, your child’s comfort is our priority and that means we will only recommend the very best treatment for them.

Invisalign makes you smile

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment method that uses a series of clear plastic aligners to straighten your teeth. This is in place of metal archwires, brackets and elastics which are used for traditional metal braces. Invisalign aligners are made from a clear medical grade plastic which is extremely discreet which means your child will be able to blend in at school, college or anywhere else.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign’s clear plastic aligners are custom-made to the shape of your child’s teeth using information we have received from the digital scans and impressions we take at the start of treatment. This ensures their aligners are a comfortable fit and extremely effective.

By the time they are teenagers, most adult teeth should have come through. However their jaw and facial bones are still developing which makes it the ideal time for corrective treatment. This means they will need to change their aligners about every two weeks – one of our orthodontists at The Specialist Orthodontic Practice can advise the best approach for them.

How long will it take to straighten their teeth?

This depends on how much correction they need. They will see results within the first few weeks of treatment but total time can range from 3 to 20 months.

How does Invisalign compare to regular braces?

Invisalign is a discreet and effective treatment that is becoming popular with children and teens. It can bring greater confidence in their smile, prevent further damage to teeth, improve oral hygiene and set your child up for better mouth health for the rest of their lives.

As the aligners are removable it is ideal for school pictures, sports day and any time they need to take them out for safety or social reasons. As long as Invisalign is kept in for 20-22 hours per day your child will be able to take part in those special moments without worry.

Our appliance can close gaps between teeth and correct over and under-bites meaning most childhood dental issues can be solved with Invisalign. To find out if your child can have Invisalign treatment, book an appointment with The Specialist Orthodontic Practice today.

How suitable is Invisalign for my child?

Visiting our practice will ensure your child is assessed by our orthodontic specialists and can determine what work needs to be done. For example, Invisalign First has been designed with younger patients in mind and orthodontic treatment can be considered from as early as seven years old.

Unfortunately many suffer from teasing at school or college when they wear braces. This usually discourages many children and teens from corrective treatment which could lead to more serious problems later on.

Fortunately Invisalign is less noticeable meaning your child can wear it with confidence. Removable aligners also mean there are no restrictions on eating sticky or chewy food – although we don’t recommend anything too sugary, we know that children will be children! All they need to do is take them out and eat as usual.

If you have any questions we offer free pre-consultation appointments so we can find the best treatment for your child or teen.

Types of Invisalign for children and teenagers

There are different types of Invisalign treatment methods that cater for virtually every treatment scenario:

  • Invisalign First: these aligners are designed specifically for our younger patients. Children between the ages of six and 11 who present with orthodontic problems could benefit from proactive treatment with Invisalign First aligners.
  • Invisalign Teen: these aligners feature blue wear indicators that allow parents to check if the appliance is being worn for the ideal length per day. The appliance also allows space for new teeth that are erupting.

Invisalign is suitable for children and teen patients and is a great option during those self-conscious teenage years!
